Alphabet Atlas

Worksheet maker

Your words on ruled lines. Trace, fade, then write.

How the sheet works

A good handwriting sheet moves a child from copying to remembering. The first row is a dark model. The next rows are grey letters with a small start dot, so the child traces over a letter they have just seen. Then the letters become dotted outlines to join up, and the last rows are blank ruled lines for writing the word from memory.

Letters are drawn from the same stroke data used for the animated letters on this site, so the joins in cursive are real cursive joins. The ruled lines show the top line, the dashed midline, the baseline and the descender line, scaled to the line size you choose.

Names are the most motivating thing to practise. For a classroom, try each child's first name, then a spelling list, then a short sentence. The names in cursive pages show how to write many common names before you print.

Questions

How do I make a cursive worksheet with my child's name?

Type the name in the Words box, choose Traditional cursive, a line size and your paper size, then press Print or save as PDF. The sheet repeats the name along each row.

What do the rows mean?

The first row is a dark model to copy. The next rows are grey letters with a start dot to trace over. Then come dotted letters to join up, and blank ruled lines for free writing.

Which line size should I pick?

Wide (about 3/8 inch tall letters) for ages 5 to 7, standard for ages 7 to 9, narrow for older students and adults.

Can I print on A4 paper?

Yes. Choose A4 under Paper. The sheet is laid out for the exact page size.

Does it work for Greek, Russian and Korean?

Yes. Pick the script under Style. Greek and Russian sheets use the print-style letters and work with whole words.
