About this translator
Braille is a touch alphabet built from cells of six dots, arranged in two columns of three. Louis Braille, who was blind from childhood, published the system in 1829 when he was twenty. Each letter is a different pattern of raised dots, and the first ten letters, a to j, are reused for the digits 1 to 0 after a number sign.
This translator produces Grade 1 Braille, where each letter is spelled out, and uses the Unicode Braille Patterns block, so the characters paste into most apps. A capital letter is marked by dot 6 (⠠) before the letter and a number by the number sign (⠼) before the digits.
It is meant for learning and for decorative use. Real Braille documents usually use Grade 2, which has contractions for common words and endings, and they are produced with a Braille embosser or display, not by copying Unicode text.

Questions
How do I write my name in Braille?
Type your name above. A capital letter at the start gets the capital sign (⠠), then each letter is shown as its dot pattern.
What is the Braille number sign?
The number sign is ⠼ (dots 3, 4, 5, 6). It goes in front of digits, which then use the patterns for the letters a to j.
Is this Grade 1 or Grade 2?
Grade 1: every letter is spelled out. Grade 2 uses contractions and is not covered here.
Can I print it as real Braille?
No. The characters are a visual representation. Embossed Braille needs a Braille embosser or a Braille display.
